History of our plantations

Beginnings

In 2009, the first of them with a surface area of 2,000 m2 was a plantation of paired lines, 40 cm apart, with a spacing of 1.80 meters, which used iron stakes 12 mm in diameter and 2.40 meters high.

Expansion

In 2011, a second plot of 3,000 m2 was added, with 22 paired lines 80 meters long and a separation between them of 1.80 m. For each line and fastening of the reticulated mesh, 2 tensioners were placed on each side, made of galvanized steel 3 m high, 2.40 m, subtracting the buried part, joined by a 3 mm stainless cable. of thickness. To reinforce each of the lines, three 2.50 m wooden spikes have been placed, distributed proportionally.

These plots that are located at the entrance of the farm are registered in the COPAE, since we have started with our organic PGI Asturian faba.

In 2022, Isabel joined as a young farmer and has a 3-hectare facility of conventional PGI Asturian faba within the brand and under the care of all of us who are part of the farm.

Faba variety and current plantation

The seed planted is of the Andecha variety selected by the producers of Arguelles. The density of the plantation is 60,000 plants per hectare, which corresponds to separations between lines of 1.80 meters and 20 cm between plants.

Drying and finishing of the product

The drying of organic faba is carried out in our bread basket. The selection of the faba and its packaging are carried out at the Campoastur Cooperative with the Ecological seal.

For conventional faba drying, a 288m2 dryer has been installed within the farm itself, where they are hung for later meshing on the farm itself. We are also packagers of our own brand of Faba Asturiana PGI Finca el Ribeiro.

The collection

It is carried out as the drying of the plants progresses between September and October, in the organic plantation the pods are collected manually one by one, while in the other bean is collected once mowed and hung for subsequent drying.

Sensory tasting results

A random sample is sent annually to the INSTITUTO TECNOLÓGICO AGRARIO DE CASTILLA Y LEÓN for sensory analysis (tasting) and determination of its physicochemical composition.
